Recently I came across an online store that I thought was pretty cool. Sure, there are lots of them on the internet, but when I start checkin out the shirts, find one I like, and then see the price, I usually click the close button. I’d never pay 80$ for a t-shirt, plus shipping on top of that. This one was different, cool stuff, good prices, and the website itself had a good feel to it.

The crew over at The Atomic Boutique website have hit the nail right on the head and put together something great with their rockabilly/retro feel merchandise. Since their opening in 2005 they have grown into an international business with many loyal followers, and it’s easy to see why. Men’s and women’s clothing lines designed for the people who won’t step foot inside an Abercrombie & Fitch or Hollister store. Tons of novelty and houseware items decorated with the infamous Bettie Page and Johnny Cash images, and home decor for the tattooed, zombie loving crowd. Plus, these guys are getting new products in on a weekly basis, expanding their product lines, and stocking up a larger warehouse for the 2011 year. It’s not just the same old stuff all the time on the website, so keep checkin their site for new products, and follow their blog which offers exclusive sales and upcoming events!

I’ve been contacted by a couple people that were having problems setting up their profiles here on Skinpoison, so I figured I’d post this walk through so anybody else having trouble could just use this as a reference if they had any trouble.

Let me just say first the site is very new, and therefore responds best with the newest browsers and flash players. Skinpoison will work the best for you if you are using Firefox browser, and have your Adobe flash player updated to Flash Player 10 or higher. They are both free, and you will definitely see a difference if you are not using them now.

Download Firefox Here Download Adobe Flash Player Here

Once you log in with your name and password, it will take you to your profile page, that is where you will be able to upload pictures and videos.
Just to the right of what will be your profile picture, you will see the “profile” button, next to the “what’s new” button, click profile
You will then see another row of buttons below, the first starting with “the wall”. To upload pictures, click on the tattoos button in that row, then click create new album. From there you can build your gallery and edit all of the settings for it.
You will also be able to add videos from YouTube by clicking the “videos” button next to “tattoos”

To put up a profile picture, you will have to be logged into your account, then again once logged in, click on the profile button.
On your profile page, there is a purple “edit full details” button. Click that and then you will see buttons for “personal information, tattoo information, and photo. When you click on photo you will be able to add what will be your profile picture that everyone will see. Be aware that profile pictures are set up to be in landscape format (long top and bottom with short sides) rather than portrait format (long sides with short top and bottom). If you upload a picture in portrait format for your profile picture, your head will be cut in half.

Using the “personal information” and “tattoo information” buttons you will be able to build and edit your full profile, and clicking on the “settings” button will let you control who you would like to see your profile and the amount of privacy you would like on Skinpoison.com

Clicking on the GetInk’d button on the top right side of any page in the website will launch the GetInk’d application and let you check out tattoos or designs on yourself. When clicked, you will be able to take a snapshot of yourself through your webcam, or upload an existing picture of yourself from your computer. Then you can use images from our flash gallery or use any image of your preference from your computer for your tattoo, as long as your image is on a white background and no larger than 1000px it will work in our application.

Feel free to contact us should anything else come up that we can help you with.

I love Halloween, in my world, it’s every day of the year. If you could see the inside of my house you’d find skulls, coffins, spiders, monsters…every type of ghastly imagery that you could imagine. Being almost obssessive , I have scoured the internet for websites devoted to the holiday, whether it be artwork, crafts, movies…anything. In my searches I’ve found that most sites are geared more towards the family oriented corny looking shit that you might find in a Good Housekeeping magazine, not the evil, macabre stuff I was quite lookin for. I don’t know about you but I’m sick of seeing skulls with googly eyes, happy go lucky witches and scarecrows that make the one from Wizard of Oz look like the fully possessed Regan.
I was gettin frustrated with my search results after looking at what seemed to be hundreds of sites that offered me nothing new along the lines of actual creepiness and ominous Halloween merch, until I found Pumpkinrot.com. These guys have taken it to a new level with almost disturbing results. Some of the stuff they conjure up is downright evil, which makes me happy to know that some people out there have minds as morbid as mine.

Carried Away Coffins is blowing up. Tattoo artists, (as well as everyone else) in the upstate NY area are placing orders for Drew’s skillfully built custom coffins that are made to your specifications. Almost anything you want built, Carried Away Coffins can pull off with ease and in a good time frame. Everything from shelves to coffin napkin holders are being built as fast as the orders come in, and they’re comin fast.
Tattoo artists local to Drew are placing orders for custom ink shelves built to fit and look cool in their shops, or just picking out stuff that’s already built (like me), that they can’t live without. Seriously…these things are that cool.
Stemming from the madness, Drew has been making coffin plaques for the tattoo shops, and seeing how crazy the artists can get with them. If you are from anywhere around the upstate NY area, Carried Away Coffins will be showcasing all the work done on these pieces at the “Coffin King Tattoo Art Event” at the Market Place Gallery in Albany NY, on Oct. 27th 2010. There are already over 80 plaques being worked on, and more going out the door every day! If you miss this you are going to be kickin yourself in the ass for a long time, it’s going to be a sick event. Come cast your vote for your favorite and see who is declared “Coffin King” at this years Rat-A-Tat Tattoo Convention.
If you are going to be in the Albany NY area Friday August 13th, 2010, Modern Body Art will be sponsoring a coffin art and furniture show in the gallery showing off Drew’s latest and craziest coffin creations. Come check it out, place your orders, get into the Coffin King Event, or just stop by and have some drinks and get fitted for your own burial box. Sooner or later…you’ll need one.

Check out the pics below!!

By Maggie Fuller

Summer is upon us and the warm weather is the perfect opportunity to show off your ink! However, as every tattoo artist I’ve ever met warns you THE SUN IS BAD FOR YOUR TATTOO. According to the American Cancer Society sun in general is bad for you if you aren’t safe about it.

So what do you do if you don’t want to miss out on the Beer-B-Q’s and long days at the beach? Here are few rules to follow to keep your tattoo fresh:

SUNBLOCK. Only use sunblock on your tattoo if your tattoo is fully healed (usually a month after you were inked). Apply sunblock (with an SPF over 30) to your healed tattoo twice for every one time that you apply or reapply sunblock to the rest of your body. Some tattoo artists even recommend applying it every 30 minutes.

If you have a new tattoo keep it covered and out of direct sunlight! Sunblock will irritate your new tattoo.

Hate the thought of having to use sunblock every time you go outside? Remember the sun and sunburns can cause tattoos to lose colors, fade and in some cases make details blurry.

According to the FDA sunblock that will be beneficial to you will have an SPF over 15 and should contain: benzophenones (oxybenzone), cinnamates (octinoxate or cinoxate), ecamsule (mexoryl SX), sulsiobenzone, salicyclates, titanium dioxide, zince oxide and avobenzone (parsol 1789). These will all be listed on the label.

If you’re going to cover your new tattoo with clothing the FDA recommends tightly-woven, light-colored and lightweight fabrics.

So head to the store grab some SPF and meet us outside with a beer!

Join the Skin Poison Community (just like any other social media community, except much cooler) and click on the ‘Get Ink’d’ tab in the upper right hand corner of the page. The simple instructions will walk you through the easy process. Remember, any image is usable (not just the ones in our application) as long as it has a white background. Upload as many of your own images as you’d like! After you’ve created your skin’s masterpiece and added to your portfolio, share it with everyone! Then, just to make it much cooler (if that’s possible), tell your friends, invite your friends, whatever you have to do – get them to SkinPoison and share this revolution in tattoo communities and the love for ink.
