Barn Burner 1

By MaryAnn Bayer

Barnburner: barn·burn·er  bärn bûr n r

n. Informal.  An extremely impressive event or successful outcome.

Impressive indeed.  Hailing from Canada or Canadia if I’m drunk, Barn Burner is my perfect summer metal band.  Full of Twin Guitar slayings AND  fuzzy garage distortion, the perfectly titled ‘Bangers’ (or “Bangahs” if your me and from Massachusetts)  re-released with two new tracks by Metal Blade is full of the best whiskey drunk music. Traditional metal fans will love the Iron Maiden meets Thin Lizzy bits, the punk rockers can’t deny the speed and the stoner rockers will simply love that there is a song called “Beer Today, Bong Tomorrow”.

Formed in Montreal in 2007, Barn Burner is a standout among the recent rash of Montreal

riff warriors (Bison B.C., Priestess, Trigger Effect) keeping metal interesting and fun without falling into lame-ass novelty metal territory. By the way, if I see another 22 year old kid dressed like a 1988 era Florida Death Metal singer complete with Reebok High-tops and black stretch jeans, I’m gonna have an episode. It looked lame back then!  What next, the re-emergence of cutoff sweat pants ala  Anal Cunt front man Seth Putnam? Ugh. I’m just sayin’…

Anyhoo, back to Barn Burner.  ‘Bangers’ is start to finish action, The opener “Holy Smokes” doesn’t even give you a quick second or  even a little intro before just killing you with guitar noodling that had me doing lots of poorly executed air guitar.  I dare you not to want to throw something while enjoying tracks: “The Long Arm Of The Law”, “Runnin’ Reds”, or “Tremors”.     The album’s cover art is stellar, rendered by Artist Cody Fennell and it definitely needs to be mentioned that Barn Burner are keeping an important metal tradition alive by enlisting a mascot! “Bangers” cover introduces America to Barn Burners’ Bernard Burner.  I look forward to seeing Bernard on future releases and most importantly T-shirts or Back Patches.  I want to know what the dog on the covers name is though…

I love this blog, I get a laugh out of the bands ‘foodie-ness’.  Keeping readers abreast of on-tour eating/veggie food seeking. As a result I am a fan of Barn Burner, and  I am now also ‘Foldie’ enthusiast.

Here’s are a couple of ‘Bangahs’ from “Bangers”
