Finnish doom metal masters Swallow the Sun have incorporated the dark, oppressive hopelessness that has defined the genre made popular in the 80’s, with the melodic, atmospheric synth sound into one dynamic force.
Snarling death metal growls are prominent throughout, but very clean vocals and singing make the band one of the few in this brand of metal that pull it off very well. The whole atmosphere while listening to these guys emits a feeling of despair and mourning, layered with beautiful guitar work and imagery to make this a great late night band to listen to.
In 2003 Swallow the Sun’s LP “Hope” skyrocketed into the number 3 position in the Finnish Album Charts, which has never happened before with a doom metal album anywhere in the world, and won’t happen again unless these guys are the ones doing it.
